China Economic Data Lifts Bitcoin to $82,500 - Key to Fed Rate Cuts Lies in Oil

Bitcoin was trading around $82,500 early Monday UTC, with the leading cryptocurrency up 0.7% since midnight and gaining 1.3% over the past 24 hours. Buying pressure picked up shortly after China’s third-quarter 2026 economic report was released to the public.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics reported that gross domestic product (GDP) grew 4.5% year-on-year in the third quarter, surpassing the second-quarter expansion rate of 4.3%. Retail sales of consumer goods in the country also delivered an upside surprise, rising 1.1% - more than double analysts’ forecasts of 0.5% and jumping from 0.4% in the previous month. Bitcoin’s advance this morning was part of a much broader market move.

Risk-On Sentiment Lifts Global Markets

Growth news out of Beijing quickly channeled optimism into international markets. Nasdaq futures climbed over 1%, while Asian bourses rallied across the board. Japan’s Nikkei advanced 1.8%, South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.6%, and Chinese equity indices added 0.3%.

Safe-haven assets lagged as investor appetite shifted back toward riskier instruments. The Dollar Index remained pinned below the 102 level, while gold prices traded flat around $4,180. This uniformly green market pattern sent a clear risk-on signal, aligning with the historical tendency of the VIX volatility index to cool and normalize after spiking during Friday’s trading session.

Oil Impact and Room for Fed Rate Cuts

While stocks and Bitcoin enjoyed buying momentum, the energy commodities market moved in the opposite direction. Crude oil prices tumbled on both sides of the Atlantic, erasing part of last week’s gains. A Reuters report linked the weakness to expectations that Donald Trump could issue waivers on Russian oil supplies, a move that could expand supply to international markets.

A sustained drop in oil prices carries significant implications for inflation projections. If energy costs continue to fall, price pressures could ease and pave the way for the Federal Reserve to cut its benchmark interest rate. The U.S. central bank is currently expected to hold rates in the 4.75%-5% range at its meeting this month, after raising rates by 25 basis points last month.

For crypto investors, early-week correlations highlight an important reality: Bitcoin’s price trajectory is increasingly tied to macro liquidity and global cost-of-capital expectations. As long as inflation pressures have room to decline and equity markets maintain risk appetite, digital assets retain a foundation to preserve their momentum.
