Market Sentiment Hits Greed at 71 - Yet Most Coins Remain in the Red

The crypto market’s Fear & Greed Index sits at 71 today, pushing the Greed level above its seven-day average of 68.6. Before interpreting this Fear & Greed reading as a buy signal, it is worth asking: who is genuinely fearful, and who is simply catching someone else’s greed?

Sentiment Bias in the Green Zone

Out of 956 tracked coins, 52.2% of assets were in the red over the past 24 hours. The median daily price change stalled at -0.01%, while coins posting gains accounted for only 43.8%. The gap between aggregate sentiment and actual market data shows that the Greed reading does not stem from a broad-based rally. Gains in a small handful of assets have been enough to skew the sentiment indicator without reflecting the true state of the broader market.

Split Signals in Derivatives

Technical trends lean positive, with 45 out of 89 selected coins on a bullish trajectory compared to 10 on a bearish path. Even so, capital remains heavily concentrated, with Bitcoin dominance standing at 59.1%. Derivatives markets are similarly divided: Ethereum recorded a funding rate of -0.0001%, standing as the only major asset with negative funding today. Dogecoin and BNB took the opposite route, logging the highest funding rates at 0.01%.

Why Did Radar #4 Activity Plunge?

The market’s mixed direction spilled over into tracking metrics, with Analytics Radar #4 recording just 8,890 scans today. Scan volume tumbled 43.7% below its weekly baseline of 15,783.6, marking the steepest drop across all analytics radar categories. Some market participants appear to be scaling back their activity just as general sentiment gauges point to strong trading appetite.

Sentiment indicators often take their cues from a handful of winners, masking the reality that the majority of coins across the market are standing still.
