Netanyahu Minta Rencana Blockchain Hadapi Sanksi Bank - Aset dan Jadwal Belum Dirinci

Netanyahu Calls for Blockchain Plan to Counter Banking Sanctions - Assets and Timeline Unspecified

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for the formulation of a plan to adopt cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology in anticipation of potential international banking sanctions. Netanyahu made the remarks during an interview on Israel’s Channel 10, just four days ahead of the national general election.

Netanyahu warned that foreign banking sanctions risk severing import transactions and triggering price surges for essential goods. This concern prompted his directive for the government to prepare an alternative economy and a currency capable of bypassing international banking restrictions.

Potential Cutoff of US Military Aid

In the Channel 10 interview, Netanyahu warned citizens to prepare for the possible halt of military aid from the United States. According to Netanyahu, the discontinuation of the tens of billions of dollars in aid is no longer a question of if, but merely a matter of time.

This readiness was also tied to anticipated shifts in the US political landscape after the leadership era of Donald Trump. Netanyahu stressed the importance of these preemptive steps to safeguard Israel’s energy independence and the sustainability of its domestic defense industry.

Diplomatic pressure on Israel has mounted following the war in Gaza. The UK, France, Canada, and several other nations have restricted settlement-related imports. Meanwhile, more than 60 Israeli economists have warned of the risk of sanctions spilling over into the broader economy.

A Plan Without Details and Precedents from Other Nations

Despite calling for the development of a blockchain adoption plan, Netanyahu did not specify the drafting entity tasked with preparing the document. He also made no mention of specific crypto assets or networks to be used, nor a timeline for finalizing the planning draft.

The move could potentially see Israel follow several countries that have previously turned to crypto assets to circumvent the conventional financial system and US intervention. Venezuela has used Tether and Bitcoin for oil transactions, Russia issued the ruble-pegged A7A5 token, while Iran has also leveraged digital currencies to evade similar restrictions.

Domestically, the commercial banking sector has already been gearing up to adopt digital assets. Israel’s largest bank, Bank Leumi, has scheduled the launch of Bitcoin trading in early 2027 through a partnership with Galaxy Digital, pending regulatory approval from the Bank of Israel.

For Israeli citizens and businesses, blockchain adoption is no longer just a theoretical example from abroad, but a tangible option now being discussed at the highest levels of government. However, without clarity on the assets and networks to be deployed, the effectiveness of the scheme in maintaining import flows remains uncertain until the government’s official draft is finalized.
