Developer Alexander Higgins released an open-source repository named ‘Entropy32 Plus’ to the public in September 2026. The repository contains everything needed for anyone looking to build an offline Bitcoin seed generator. The release package includes controller firmware, circuit board designs, manufacturing fabrication files, and 3D-printable casing blueprints.
The DIY device, dubbed ‘The Universe Bifurcator’, takes a different approach from standard random number generators. The system utilizes pulses from a Geiger counter and measures the time intervals between radiation events. Radioactive decay at the individual atomic scale is fundamentally unpredictable. This pure law of physics provides a source of true physical randomness, fundamentally distinct from pseudo-random numbers generated by computer software algorithms.
The current hardware design relies on data input from a GQ Electronics GMC-320S Geiger counter connected via a standard 3.5mm audio jack. The incoming analog signal from the radiation detector is captured by an LM393 comparator component and converted into digital input. This digital signal is then forwarded to a central ATmega328P microcontroller. The entire recording process operates in isolation without Wi-Fi modules, Bluetooth connectivity, or persistent memory to store traces of the seed.
Filtering Raw Signals into Cryptographic Keys
The microcontroller’s task is to process raw radiation signals into valid cryptographic keys. The device’s firmware gathers an initial 512-bit stream of inputs from the Geiger counter readings. That dataset is then further processed using the SHA-256 hash function. The resulting mathematical output is finally converted into standard BIP39 recovery phrase format, generating a 12- or 24-word wallet seed phrase.
The reading system is equipped with data-filtering mechanisms to preserve true randomness. The machine is programmed to ignore radiation interval measurements that share identical delays. Additionally, any measurement below a 200-microsecond threshold is automatically rejected. Such short durations below this threshold are treated as potential external signal noise rather than genuine radioactive decay.
A Direct Warning from the Creator
Although all code and hardware designs have been released as open source, Higgins explicitly warned users against using his DIY device to secure significant funds. He emphasized that the device strictly requires an independent review before being deemed ready for production use.
The warning stems from the fact that the machine’s entropy source has not yet been validated or audited by third parties. Without independent testing, the device’s reliability in securing high-value assets remains unproven.
