OpenAI directly tested these texture and color improvements in a head-to-head comparison against Nano Banana 2 - Google’s name for its Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. Both image generation models were pitted against each other across six different visual categories to benchmark their limits.
Results from the six-category showdown showed that Images 2.5 achieved noticeable improvements in color consistency and high-level detail placement. This quality was tested further across two specific categories: steampunk-themed imagery and human portraits. In these two complex categories, ChatGPT Images 2.5 proved capable of maintaining the natural color balance of its subjects.
The natural color balance in portraits and intricate objects was achieved without introducing excessive texture distortion. The elimination of this distortion directly addresses what had long been a primary complaint among early users.
The End of Heavy Artifacts and Yellow Filters
These color improvements also resolve two long-standing flaws that plagued OpenAI’s image models. Early users will clearly remember the ‘piss filter’ - a distinct yellowish hue that lingered across many older image generations.
Beyond removing the yellow filter, the new model also eliminates legacy defects from previous versions. GPT Image 2 was known for harsh over-sharpening issues.
