Polymarket Gaet LeBron James untuk Kampanye NFL - Tapi Aturan NBA Batasi Porsi Sahamnya di Bawah 1%

Polymarket Taps LeBron James for NFL Campaign - But NBA Rules Cap His Equity Below 1%

LeBron James announced a partnership with Polymarket on September 5 through a 14-second video. In the short clip, the basketball star is seen entering a fictional building labeled Polymarket HQ before pressing an elevator button heading to the Sports floor.

Polymarket’s move to tap LeBron highlights its strategy to expand into mainstream audiences, especially as the prediction platform recently launched perpetual futures trading with up to 20x leverage. CNBC reported that a major campaign is in preparation with an initial focus on the NFL, citing anonymous sources not authorized to speak publicly.

Limits Under NBA Rules

Active NBA players’ involvement with platforms touching the betting space is strictly governed. The NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) allows active players to endorse sports-betting and fantasy sports companies, provided the promotion takes the form of a general campaign or focuses on sports outside the NBA ecosystem.

Equity ownership is regulated even more strictly. Active players may only hold passive, non-controlling equity in companies offering betting on NBA games, with their stake capped below 1%. To date, no details have emerged regarding contract duration, compensation, equity share, or specific promotional commitments binding LeBron.

By comparison, Giannis Antetokounmpo took a similar path last February when he became a passive shareholder in Kalshi. At the time, Giannis agreed not to trade any contracts related to the NBA. LeBron is preparing to kick off his 24th NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers in mid-October, and has not yet announced any written commitments regarding basketball betting restrictions.

Awaiting Details Amid Valuation Targets

Polymarket previously hosted betting markets predicting which team would sign LeBron during the free agency window. With this official partnership established, it remains unclear whether prediction markets concerning the superstar’s future will be discontinued or allowed to run as usual.

CNBC sources expect additional details regarding the NFL campaign to emerge in the week starting September 7. The partnership’s momentum comes at a pivotal time as Polymarket is targeting a $21 billion market valuation.

The presence of a sports megastar at the forefront of promotions highlights Polymarket’s ambition to move beyond the Web3 ecosystem. As crypto predictions sit alongside weekend football scores, the line between decentralized betting and sports entertainment is steadily blurring. Source: crypto.news.
