For the first time, real-world asset (RWA) trading volume on decentralized exchange Hyperliquid surpassed native crypto transactions over the past week. Tokenized assets marked a turning point by capturing 54% of the platform’s total transaction volume. This shift in capital flows was highlighted by ARK Invest Director of Digital Assets Research Lorenzo Valente in a post on X, framing the milestone as the ecosystem’s entry into a new era of decentralized finance (DeFi).
Single-Stock Equities Outpace Commodities
This dominance has built on a steadily concentrating trend. Since June 2026, individual stock trading volume has gradually overtaken index and commodity transactions within Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 ecosystem. Valente’s data details that single-stock equities now account for 61% of all RWA trading activity.
At the top, the most actively traded stock was SK Hynix. The South Korean company is a memory chipmaker supplying DRAM and HBM components - critical hardware building blocks for the development of global artificial intelligence systems.
A $30 Million Barrier to Build Markets
All of this transaction volume flows through HIP-3, a framework launched by Hyperliquid in October 2025 designed to allow external teams to deploy and operate their own perpetual markets. The barrier to accessing this infrastructure is set high: each builder team is required to stake 500,000 HYPE tokens, valued at $30 million at current market prices.
The ecosystem’s capacity extends beyond publicly traded equities. Before the surge in AI chip orders, the HIP-3 network had already hosted pre-IPO markets for entities such as SpaceX, Anthropic, and OpenAI. Hyperliquid’s moves have been on ARK Invest’s radar for some time. In September 2025, ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood stated that the platform reminded her of the Solana network in its early stages.
What Lies Ahead for Pure-Play Crypto Platforms?
Reflecting on Hyperliquid’s RWA volume dominance, Valente offered a sharp take. He warned that RWA trading will not converge on the same exchanges as crypto trading. His analysis concluded that platforms currently dominating the crypto market may ultimately become irrelevant for RWA trading.
These figures serve as a signpost of shifting momentum for market participants. Valente warned that traders still focusing solely on crypto tokens are looking at the wrong market. As assets powering artificial intelligence pull liquidity into the blockchain ecosystem, refusing to read the direction of traditional instruments means letting the largest capital flows pass by.
