Uniswap processed over $70 billion in trading volume over the past month. The announcement released on September 13, 2026, cited ranking data from DeFiLlama Research, with the figure surpassing the combined total volume of the next three largest decentralized exchanges (DEXs).
The volume metric here purely represents the dollar value of crypto assets traded or swapped by users across the protocol. This $70 billion figure does not reflect profits made by traders from price spreads, nor is it a calculation of revenue flowing to UNI token holders.
A Transition Not Yet Fully Complete
The $70 billion tally encompasses combined activity across multiple Uniswap versions and all blockchains where their smart contracts operate. DeFiLlama data breakdown reveals that transaction volume was split across two primary iterations. Uniswap v4 recorded nearly $38 billion in volume over the past 30-day period. This fourth version brings a shared contract architecture and programmable hooks that give developers room to customize exchange functions.
However, the arrival of v4 did not halt the use of previous versions. Uniswap v3 proved to remain active, contributing around $32 billion in volume over the same period. The hallmark feature of v3, which allows liquidity providers to concentrate their capital within specific price ranges, remains the primary reason this version endures. The older Uniswap v2 also processed more than $1.2 billion in transactions, rounding out the total across all three versions to cross the $70 billion threshold.
A Widening Competitive Gap
The inability of the three largest competitors to match a single platform - even with their volumes combined - highlights the widening competitive gap in the DEX sector. This milestone provides a clear picture of the maximum scale currently achievable by an exchange operating without intermediaries. Market liquidity appears to concentrate around established players with layered infrastructure, leaving an increasingly narrow competitive space for new protocols.
