Three crypto whale wallets transferred 6,168 BTC worth $498.5 million to institutional platform Coinbase Prime within a span of several hours on October 28, 2026. These large transfers entered the exchange as Bitcoin traded around $80,800, after briefly dipping below the $80,000 level earlier in the week.
On-chain tracking data from Arkham Intelligence and Lookonchain confirmed that all three deposits originated from separate wallets directed to Coinbase Prime deposit addresses. The asset transfers took place as global market participants adopted a wait-and-see stance ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy announcement.
However, this half-billion-dollar deposit was not the only large movement of coins heading toward institutional platforms over the past two days.
Deposit Patterns from Dormant Wallets
A day earlier, on October 27, two whale wallets that had been dormant for three years deposited 2,571 BTC worth $206.52 million to the same platform. Long-term coin holders began reactivating their holdings just ahead of key global financial market events.
Arkham records also showed a transaction from a wallet starting with bc1q9 depositing 438.37 BTC worth $35.38 million into Coinbase Prime. This transaction carried an unrealized loss of more than $15 million, after the wallet owner withdrew 615.4 BTC about 16 months ago at an average price of $105,271 per coin. The arrival of these coins at a loss indicates that some capital holders are choosing to move their assets despite their portfolios remaining under pressure.
Exchange Outflows and ETF Inflows
Behind the whale exchange deposits, data on coin movements across trading platforms shows a contrasting dynamic. Santiment noted net exchange outflows reaching 14,942 BTC over the past 24 hours. This largest daily withdrawal in five weeks indicates a decline in short-term selling pressure in the open market.
Capital flows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs also showed a recovery with $176 million in net inflows on Tuesday. Over two trading days, cumulative inflows reached $286 million, trimming total net monthly outflows for October to just $26 million.
Current market conditions are influenced by market participants adopting a wait-and-see approach ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision on October 28, with expectations that rates will hold in the 3.75% to 4.00% range. At the same time, simmering geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran remain an additional risk factor closely watched by investors.
For retail market participants, the contrast between hundred-million-dollar whale deposits and thousands of coins being withdrawn from exchanges underscores one point: the market is absorbing capital from two different directions before the official interest rate decision is announced.
