Yuga Labs has officially expanded to the Solana blockchain through Mudwater, a physical and digital trading card project announced on October 18, 2026. Rather than selling the entire collection to the general public, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) creator is making most of its initial supply free for holders of its digital assets. A total of 7,134 boxes containing 171,216 card packs have been allocated directly as a community airdrop.
Releasing the cards on Solana expands Yuga Labs’ footprint beyond Ethereum while continuing to provide perks for existing NFT holders.
Who Is Eligible to Claim
Mudwater’s total supply is capped at 10,000 boxes, with each box containing 24 packs for a total of 240,000 packs. The largest share is going to the community: 7,134 boxes for the community airdrop, 566 boxes for onboarding new communities, and 300 boxes for partner communities. The remaining 2,000 boxes, or 20% of the supply, are reserved for commercial distribution.
Bored Ape Yacht Club holders can claim 10 free packs per NFT they hold. Mutant Ape Yacht Club owners receive an allocation of 2 packs per NFT. Claim rights are also open to Otherside holders, the ApeChain community, and selected Solana communities. All eligible participants have until January 19, 2027, at 00:00 UTC to claim.
ApeCoin Buyback Scheme from Market Transactions
Yuga Labs created 120 card designs, including foil editions, serial-numbered cards, and eight rare one-of-one cracked-ice cards. Each pack contains 10 cards, creating an estimated circulation of roughly 2.4 million individual cards across both physical and digital formats.
The NFT version of Mudwater can be traded on the OpenSea marketplace. Developers have also introduced a tiered conversion feature: 24 pack tokens can be combined into one sealed box token, while 10 box tokens can be merged into one case token. NFT transactions for this collection are subject to a 2.5% royalty. In addition to this royalty, the system deducts another 2.5% from eligible digital NFT trading volume to purchase ApeCoin (APE), which is then distributed to Mudwater collectors based on their card holdings.
Testing Market Demand After the Free Giveaway
The Mudwater launch coincides with SOL trading around $104, down roughly 5.6% over the last seven days. That price decline is not directly connected to the card release.
For Ape NFT holders, the project provides an added incentive without upfront minting costs. The next test lies in secondary market liquidity and physical collector demand after the January 2027 claim deadline passes.
