Polygon Caplok Coinme Demi Masuk Jalur Visa $12 Triliun - Bosnya Tegaskan Tak Lagi Bersaing Sesama Blockchain

Polygon Acquires Coinme to Enter Visa’s $12 Trillion Payment Arena - CEO Says It No Longer Competes With Other Blockchains

Polygon Labs has finalized the acquisition of Coinme, a licensed U.S. crypto payments provider holding licenses across 48 states and access to 50,000 cash outlets. The deal gives Polygon the ability to handle conversions between fiat currency, stablecoins, and crypto using its own resources without external intermediaries.

Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron emphasized his company’s strategic pivot: “We haven’t thought of ourselves as competing with other blockchains for a long time - we are a payments-based company that uses blockchain to move money.” Management projects this regulated payments business will turn profitable by 2027. However, that identity shift puts Polygon in direct competition with a payments market dominated by Visa and Stripe.

How Far Polygon Sits from Incumbents

Visa’s payment volume in fiscal year 2025 reached $12.3 trillion, while Stripe recorded $1.9 trillion. Those figures highlight the scale of the market Polygon is targeting as its journey begins. At the same time, legacy players are expanding into decentralized technology: Visa is extending its stablecoin settlement network to Polygon, Stripe is building its own stablecoin payments, and Swift is developing blockchain infrastructure alongside major banks.

Integrated access to Polygon’s payment platform has not yet opened to the general public, as it remains in technical preview. Four early partners have begun testing the new infrastructure: Tazapay for cross-border payments, Mesh for crypto payment networks, Toku for global payroll, and Kira in the payment infrastructure sector.

Shielding Customers from Rival Offers

Behind the ambition to enter the global payments arena lies a defensive motive against competing blockchains that Boiron aims to address. Historically, according to Boiron, rival blockchains frequently offered financial incentives to payment firms to migrate transaction volumes away from Polygon. Through its ownership of Coinme, Polygon now holds direct customer relationships, closing the loophole for competitors trying to capture transaction flow with financial sweeteners.

The economic activity from real-world transactions is also starting to directly impact the network’s treasury. Transaction fees on the Polygon blockchain now offset its token emissions, with millions of dollars in additional fees flowing directly to validators and stakers.

For validators and token holders across the Polygon ecosystem, this new direction redefines the benchmark of success: proof is no longer about competing technological claims between chains, but rather how much real-money volume they can retain before the 2027 profitability target arrives.
