After holding the asset untouched for nine years, an early Ethereum investor has decided to move their stash. On-chain data tracker Lookonchain reported that the 2017-era wallet deposited 6,369 ETH worth approximately $15.95 million to the Kraken exchange on October 14, 2026. All of the coins came from an initial accumulation when Ethereum was still priced at around $14 per coin.
What caught the market’s attention was not just the multi-million-dollar value, but the vast price gap between the initial $14 cost basis and its current valuation.
Turning $89,000 into $15 Million
On-chain transaction records show that the wallet owner invested an initial capital of around $89,166 when accumulating 6,369 ETH at $14 nine years ago. By the time the holdings were transferred to Kraken on October 14, 2026, their value had reached $15.95 million. Based on the valuation at deposit, the investor booked potential capital gains of more than 17,700%, or roughly $15.86 million.
Those gains were achieved after the owner held the asset across market cycles since 2017. Moving the entire stash to an exchange marks the end of a long holding period for the asset.
Why Kraken Deposits Indicate a Sale
On-chain analysts identify large-volume asset deposits to centralized exchanges like Kraken as a sign of impending liquidation. Investors rarely move thousands of coins worth millions of dollars to centralized platforms if they only intend to hold them. Depositing to Kraken is viewed as preparation to execute a direct sale on the spot market.
Offloading assets through the spot market carries a different impact than over-the-counter transactions. Direct selling on order books requires sufficient buyer demand to prevent prices from dropping as sell orders enter the market.
Selling Pressure Around $2,500
The timing of the coin transfer coincides with macroeconomic conditions weighing on the crypto market. Markets have been volatile after the US annual inflation report (CPI) for September came in at 3.7%, exceeding market consensus. The higher-than-expected inflation figure triggered caution across broader market participants.
Profit-taking by this 2017-era wallet adds to market focus on potentially heightened short-term selling pressure on Ethereum’s price around the $2,500 zone. The arrival of 6,369 ETH on a spot exchange increases supply ready to be offloaded at any moment.
For market participants tracking Ethereum, movements on Kraken have now become a focal point around the $2,500 level. As an investor who held for nine years begins securing profits, spot market liquidity must prepare to absorb the impact.
