Citi dan DBS Ubah Transfer Dolar Lintas Negara 2 Hari Jadi Hitungan Menit di Akhir Pekan - Begini Caranya

Citi and DBS Turn 2-Day Cross-Border Dollar Transfers into Minutes Over the Weekend - Here’s How

Two global banking institutions have tested an intercontinental money transfer route. Citi and DBS completed a tokenized US dollar transfer between Singapore and New York on Saturday, September 5, 2026, slashing processing times from the typical two business days to just minutes.

DBS management referred to the event as the first weekend cross-border dollar payment executed over the Swift Digital Ledger. Although specific amounts, participating clients, and fee details were not publicly disclosed, completing the settlement outside standard banking hours highlights a shift in cross-border money flows.

Bank Deposits, Not Stablecoins

Behind the scenes, the infrastructure powering the weekend transaction did not rely on public stablecoins. The entire process treated the funds as tokenized deposits - digital assets legally recognized as commercial bank liabilities.

The Swift Digital Ledger acted as the orchestrator between the two continents. Smart contracts recorded, sequenced, and validated payment obligations from each bank’s internal systems. While transaction logging occurred swiftly on the digital ledger, the final settlement of interbank obligations still flowed through conventional banking channels.

The two-layer structure allows banks to offer transfer services around the clock, moving beyond standard Monday-to-Friday business hours. At the same time, banks retain full control over risk management limits, client credit monitoring, and regulatory compliance.

Swift Ledger Network Expansion

The move by DBS and Citi follows recent milestones from HSBC and Standard Chartered, which completed initial interbank transactions on the same platform in August.

For Citi, the operation marks a continuation of its service integration roadmap. The US bank previously identified itself as the first institution from the country to process live transactions on the Swift ledger, following direct pilots with First Abu Dhabi Bank and Singapore’s OCBC. Citi Token Services now manages $1 billion in volume through its proprietary blockchain system, supporting 24/7 dollar clearing for more than 300 institutional clients.

Further transactions are already slated. Throughout September, Citi plans additional transfers alongside DBS and United Overseas Bank. DBS’s position at the forefront is no coincidence, as the Singaporean lender serves as the sole Asian representative in Swift’s 12-member design core group.

Swift launched the new ledger for early use in July, following a nine-month development period. Currently, 17 banks across six different regional corridors are connected to the Swift Digital Ledger ecosystem.

Rachel Chew, Group COO of DBS, summarized the progress across the pilot series, stating that the transaction underscores how tokenized money is tangibly moving beyond experimental limits toward everyday adoption.
