Mastercard Sponsori Hackathon XRPL 36 Jam di New York - Tapi Ini Bukan Sinyal Integrasi Baru

Mastercard Sponsors 36-Hour XRPL Hackathon in New York - But It Does Not Signal a New Integration

On August 26, 2026, XRPL Commons announced a major addition to the XRP developer calendar. Mastercard has officially been named as the sponsor for a 36-hour XRP Ledger hackathon taking place on October 24-25 in New York. The event’s timing is strategic - slated just ahead of Ripple’s Swell conference.

The competition divides participants’ focus across four primary development tracks: protocol innovation, agentic finance, lending and borrowing, and an open track. The agentic finance track challenges builders to create applications where software agents can initiate and manage autonomous financial activities. Meanwhile, the lending track will center on the currently proposed XRP Ledger Lending Protocol framework.

Not a Signal for Product Launch

While Mastercard’s brand presence at a developer event could easily be interpreted as the debut of a new payment feature, the reality is far more modest. The sponsorship agreement does not disclose financial contributions, judging roles, or the scope of their technical involvement. This move represents pure event support and does not indicate a new payment product or live deployment on the XRPL network. Any full commercial integration would require a separate official announcement from Mastercard.

Mastercard’s involvement in New York builds on its history of engagement with the Ripple ecosystem. In June 2026, the payments giant updated its settlement infrastructure to accommodate licensed stablecoins. That expansion encompassed Ripple USD (RLUSD), Circle’s USDC, SoFiUSD, and Paxos tokens operating across eight different blockchain networks, including the XRP Ledger.

A Track Record of Joint Exploration

Well before this hackathon was announced, Mastercard had been exploring XRPL’s potential behind the scenes. In November 2025, the firm partnered with Ripple, WebBank, and Gemini to explore settling fiat card transactions using RLUSD on the XRP Ledger. That initiative remains a technical pilot and has not yet rolled out as a public commercial product.

In the consumer retail space, Mastercard’s footprint takes a different form. Gemini currently issues a Mastercard-affiliated credit card that distributes rewards in XRP. This consumer card program operates completely separate from the institutional settlement project utilizing RLUSD.

Market attention now turns to the immediate milestone: the tangible outcomes of the October hackathon itself. The innovations built over those 36 hours could help shape the future direction of XRPL infrastructure development. Source: crypto.news.
