Nasdaq CEO Estimates Tokenization Could Unlock Tens of Billions of Dollars - But Holds Back on Launch Timeline

The CEO of Nasdaq predicts that asset tokenization could unlock tens of billions of dollars for the global financial system. The Wall Street exchange leader shared this outlook, as reported by @WatcherGuru on X on October 13, 2026.

Nasdaq’s interest in distributed ledger technology is nothing new. The New York-based exchange previously committed $100 million to developing tokenized stocks, underscoring its determination to build new trading rails for major investors.

Major Corporate Moves in the Digital Asset Space

Nasdaq’s push reflects a growing institutional trend across multiple sectors. Samsung recently enabled USDC stablecoin transfers for 82 million Galaxy smartphone users in the United States. Meanwhile, Standard Chartered selected Dubai as its jurisdiction for custodying Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.

However, institutional adoption remains uneven. Morgan Stanley has chosen to delay the launch of its tokenized stock products until 2027. This cautious stance shows that investment banks are still evaluating internal infrastructure readiness while waiting for clearer rules.

Nonstop Liquidity Meets Volatility

The prospect of unlocking tens of billions of dollars targeted by Nasdaq also comes with market dynamics distinct from traditional exchanges. A report from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) noted that tokenized stocks exhibit 1.5 times higher volatility than conventional equities. Nevertheless, half of all tokenized stock trading volume takes place outside Wall Street’s standard operating hours.

The IMF’s findings highlight the primary appeal of tokenization: continuous market access when physical exchanges are closed. This round-the-clock trading flexibility serves as a magnet for global capital, even as wider price swings demand strict risk management.

What Has Yet to Be Disclosed?

The Nasdaq chief’s remarks remain a forward-looking vision without a binding roadmap. The exchange has yet to announce a launch timeline, implementation mechanisms, or the technical architecture it plans to deploy to channel that liquidity.

Regulatory uncertainty around digital assets, still being hashed out across multiple jurisdictions, also leaves this ambitious plan without a definitive launch date. Without a finalized legal framework, tokenization on major exchanges remains in an infrastructure exploration phase.

For crypto market participants, Nasdaq’s signal confirms that institutional appetite for tokenization has not waned. Still, until an official schedule and technical mechanisms are made public, that multi-billion-dollar projection awaits real-world validation.
