Singapura Lelang 624 Barang Mewah Sitaan Kasus $2,37 Miliar - Begini Peran Ratusan Ribu USDT di Baliknya

Singapore Auctions 624 Luxury Goods Seized in $2.37B Case - How Hundreds of Thousands in USDT Were Involved

The Singapore government has officially launched an online auction for 624 luxury goods seized in a S$3 billion (around $2.37 billion) money laundering case. This inaugural auction marks the first in a series of 15 auctions scheduled to run from September 2026 through May 2027.

Bidding for hundreds of lots opened on September 7. Prospective buyers can view the seized items in person during public viewings, with a handbag exhibition running September 14-19 followed by jewelry on September 21-26. Hotlotz, an auction house appointed by Deloitte Singapore, is managing the sales. Organizers are accepting bids from global participants, provided they complete mandatory registration and identity verification.

The Trail of Hundreds of Thousands in USDT Behind the Scandal

The crypto connection in this massive money laundering case involved fund flows via the Tether (USDT) stablecoin. Wang Qiming, a former Citibank relationship manager, was found to have facilitated transactions for one of the primary culprits, Su Baolin. Wang assisted in liquidating Su’s crypto assets by selling 499,980 USDT and converting it into S$657,980 in cash.

In another transaction, Wang again helped Su offload 364,908 USDT to obtain S$481,678 in cash. The court sentenced Wang to 24 months in prison on charges of document forgery and money laundering, while Su Baolin received a 14-month prison term.

From Louis Vuitton Kusama Bags to Rolex Watches

A total of 338 lots of designer handbags and accessories are listed in the initial auction phase. Among the most notable seized items is a limited-edition Louis Vuitton bag created in collaboration with artist Yayoi Kusama, estimated to fetch between S$12,000 and S$16,000. Bidders can also vie for various pieces from Dior and Chanel. Subsequent auction rounds will feature additional luxury brands including Hermรจs, Patek Philippe, Richard Mille, and Rolex.

The money laundering case originated from a massive raid in August 2023 that led to the arrest of 10 foreign nationals. As investigations unfolded, the estimated scope of the case ballooned from S$1 billion to S$3 billion. All 10 primary suspects received prison sentences ranging from 13 to 17 months, and S$944 million worth of assets tied to the group were completely seized by the state.

Beyond the core 10 suspects, 15 out of 17 other individuals connected to the network agreed to surrender assets valued at S$1.85 billion. All proceeds generated from the luxury goods auctions, along with seized cash, are deposited directly into the Singapore government’s consolidated fund.
