Consumers are set to spend cryptocurrencies and stablecoins directly from digital wallets across Visa’s global merchant network. The partnership between Visa and Mesh brings digital asset transactions straight to merchant checkouts worldwide. Visa’s network encompasses over 175 million merchant locations across more than 200 countries and territories. Through this integration, users can pay for in-store and online purchases without first transferring funds to a bank account or relying on a separate crypto card.
Visa payment credentials will be provided directly through digital wallet applications participating in the program. This setup cuts out the traditional process that previously required users to convert assets into a bank account before their balance could be used for shopping.
How the Transaction System Works at Checkout
A key aspect of the partnership lies on the merchant acceptance side. Store owners and online businesses can accept payments over the existing Visa network without altering their checkout systems. Merchants are not required to update point-of-sale terminals or install new hardware to accept transactions funded by consumer crypto wallets.
Mesh manages payment funding as well as conversions between cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and fiat currencies. This mechanism ensures digital asset balances in consumer wallets can be converted into currencies accepted by the Visa network. The asset exchange occurs in real time during the checkout process.
Beyond handling asset conversions and transaction funding, Mesh manages new customer onboarding. Mesh is also responsible for ensuring compliance with all identity verification or know-your-customer (KYC) requirements applicable across the payment system.
Mesh Expansion and Funding Background
The collaboration with Visa expands the integration footprint Mesh has built across the digital asset payment sector. This partnership follows a technical integration Mesh established with Bybit Pay last September to broaden transaction access for crypto wallet users.
Mesh’s expansion efforts are backed by capital raised earlier this year. In January, Mesh secured $75 million in a funding round led by Dragonfly, which valued the company at $1 billion.
Rollout Details Still in the Works
Although the partnership has been officially announced, neither party has publicly disclosed complete operational details. Participating digital wallets, supported devices, and an official launch date have yet to be revealed. These details will be released once phased rollout plans are finalized by both companies.
For consumers and crypto holders, the ability to spend balances directly across 175 million Visa merchants will take some time to roll out. The availability of in-store checkout and online payments will depend on which digital wallets are the first to activate this payment credential integration.
