Visa dan Induk Upbit Jalin Kerja Sama Stablecoin - Incar Tren AI Belanja Sendiri

Visa and Upbit Parent Dunamu Partner on Stablecoins - Eyeing Autonomous AI Shopping

Two financial powerhouses from different eras have officially joined forces. Dunamu, operator of South Korean crypto exchange Upbit, announced a strategic partnership with payment network Visa on Aug. 28 to explore the potential of stablecoin payments and global remittances.

The agreement was signed by Visa Worldwide Pte. Limited as the Asia-Pacific regional entity. Two days prior, on Aug. 26 local time, Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok and Visa Global President Oliver Jenkyn met in person at the Visa Global Market Support Center in San Francisco to outline their collaboration roadmap.

Exploring OUSD and Autonomous AI Commerce

Research areas include stablecoin payments, cross-border fund transfers, and merchant settlement solutions. A notable highlight is their intention to test agentic commerce - a new AI-driven user experience enabling AI agents to shop and settle bills on behalf of users.

Both parties also agreed to evaluate business models leveraging Open USD (OUSD). OUSD is a dollar-pegged stablecoin developed through the Open Standard initiative, backed by institutions including Visa, Mastercard, Coinbase, BlackRock, and more than 140 other organizations.

Back in July, Dunamu stated that it had not agreed to issue OUSD. The new partnership clarifies this boundary: the Upbit parent is studying OUSD-based business models, but will not act as the token issuer or operator.

For Visa, the exploratory move is a logical next step. The payments network has been actively expanding its stablecoin settlement infrastructure and programmable payment systems since June 2026.

Still in Early Stages

Despite involving established institutions, a finished public product is not expected anytime soon. All collaborative services remain strictly in early exploratory stages.

As of the partnership announcement, no launch date has been set. Dunamu and Visa have not yet specified which blockchain network will be used, the target stablecoins, custody providers, settlement transaction details, or the initial trial markets.

The lack of a concrete timeline aligns with the regulatory landscape in Dunamu’s home country. The South Korean government has yet to finalize a comprehensive regulatory framework for the stablecoin ecosystem, with lawmakers still debating the eligibility criteria for issuing won-pegged tokens.
