Bitcoin posted a $14,775 gain during the week ending August 23 - the largest weekly dollar jump in history, driving prices up 23.5%. The price increase was fueled by fresh liquidity entering the network alongside a wave of short liquidations and short-term trading momentum on exchanges.
Data compiled by analyst Darkfost shows that Bitcoin’s realized cap grew by more than $4.6 billion in a single week. The realized cap metric measures the value of each coin at the price when it last moved onchain, unlike traditional market capitalization which multiplies circulating supply by current price. The $4.6 billion capital injection marks the strongest short-term realized cap movement since the onset of the current bear market.
Institutional investment flows reflected a similar trend as US spot Bitcoin ETFs logged seven consecutive sessions of net inflows through August 25, totaling $2.57 billion. BlackRock’s IBIT dominated, contributing $284.4 million of the $314.3 million daily tally on August 25. Debasement trade sentiment driven by a weakening US dollar and concerns over fiscal policy also supported inflows into the crypto asset.
30-Day Metric Gap
The 30-day realized cap growth rate remained stalled at 0.4%, indicating that onchain data has yet to confirm sustained liquidity expansion despite the weekly surge.
Capital absorption comparisons were previously highlighted by CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju, who noted that Bitcoin’s realized cap had expanded by $467 billion over the past two years without a commensurate price appreciation. This growing capital absorption pattern demands higher inflow volumes to ignite the next market rally.
The $81,000 Test
Bitcoin is now attempting to reclaim the $81,000 price level, backed by weekly ETF inflows and onchain transaction activity.
Validating a recovery trend cannot rely solely on a single weekly spike, but depends on sustained fresh liquidity. Market confirmation requires one primary condition: realized cap figures must remain consistently positive over the coming weeks. Reported by crypto.news.
