Bitcoin veteran Luke Dashjr officially stepped down from the OCEAN mining pool on August 29, 2026. The departure was marked by a final agreement with Mummolin Inc., OCEAN’s parent company, resulting in a full buyback of Dashjr’s equity. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed to the public.
Dashjr relinquished three roles simultaneously: chairman, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and director. Signs of his departure appeared earlier in August when he began gradually stepping back from various operational responsibilities at OCEAN.
A joint statement cited the reason for Dashjr’s departure as “different visions for the future of Bitcoin mining following recent protocol developments.” The parties involved did not specify which proposals triggered the strategic divergence.
Track Record at OCEAN and Dorsey Funding
Dashjr’s involvement with OCEAN began in 2023 when he co-founded the mining pool. The project initially drew significant attention after successfully raising $6.2 million in funding, led by Jack Dorsey.
From the start, OCEAN was designed as a non-custodial platform. Their system provides miners with full visibility into block template contents and directly distributes block rewards without holding them on intermediary exchanges.
As CTO, Dashjr oversaw the launch of the DATUM protocol on OCEAN. The technology allows individual miners to construct their own block templates even while participating in a shared pool. OCEAN’s performance later attracted Tether, which directed a hashrate commitment to their network in April 2025. Following Dashjr’s departure, Tether has not announced any changes to its participation.
Mummolin Inc. stated that the founder’s departure will not cause operational disruptions. OCEAN continues to operate, serving miners while maintaining its commitment to transparency.
A New Project Without Details
Before founding OCEAN, Dashjr was widely known as the founder of Eligius, one of the mining pools from Bitcoin’s early days. That technical expertise is now being leveraged to develop a new project outside of Mummolin.
Dashjr is currently building a project called CONVOY with the mission to decentralize the Bitcoin mining ecosystem. The project is starting entirely from scratch: with no website, no technical documentation, and no targeted launch timeline yet.
To date, details regarding CONVOY’s development team, technology, or service specifications have not been publicly confirmed. Although still in its early stages, Dashjr’s decision to launch an independent initiative ensures his presence remains a fixture in Bitcoin mining infrastructure.
