Trump Kantongi $1,4 Miliar dari Kripto Saat Menjabat - Kini Aturan Senat Mengancam Proyek Keluarganya

Trump Pocketed $1.4 Billion from Crypto While in Office - Now Senate Rules Threaten His Family’s Project

President Donald Trump has reportedly raked in over $1.4 billion in revenue from crypto ventures since returning to office. Revealed in a 2026 financial report, this figure has triggered opposition. A national Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,166 respondents shows that 63 percent of U.S. citizens deem it inappropriate for the president and his family to profit from crypto businesses while still in government.

Public suspicion has extended to policymaking circles. Around 69 percent of respondents believe that Trump’s personal businesses influence his political decisions inside the White House. This sentiment was even echoed by his own supporter base, with half of Republican voters agreeing that the president’s business dealings affect the direction of the country.

Divestment Threat to Family Project

This wave of opposition is heating up the debate over the CLARITY Act bill currently moving through the U.S. Senate. The main focus is on the ethics clause proposed by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, which contains rules banning active officials from issuing or promoting crypto tokens.

If Gillibrand’s proposed clause passes into law, Trump will face forced divestment rules. He could be forced to relinquish all of his ownership in the decentralized finance (DeFi) project World Liberty Financial (WLF). This rule also fully applies to all official meme tokens branded with his name, forcing the president to sever ties with his digital assets.

This asset portfolio at stake reaches hundreds of millions of dollars. Data as of July 2025 shows that World Liberty Financial has accumulated Ethereum (ETH) deposits worth $296 million. The project is not just holding passive coins, but is drawing up plans to launch a global foreign exchange remittance platform. This grand plan could fall through or change hands if the Senate approves these new ethics rules.

Why Are Republicans Also Cornered?

This situation places Republican senators in a multi-layered political dilemma. On one hand, they bear the partisan moral burden of defending the political interests of the incumbent president. On the other hand, the poll data sends a clear message that half of their own constituents doubt Trump’s objectivity in formulating policies that affect his personal pocketbook.

All this tension will reach a head this coming September through the crypto legislation vote in the Senate. The choices available run in two opposite directions. Defending the president’s crypto projects means ignoring transparency demands from the majority of citizens, while voting for the ethics rules means forcing their party leader to surrender his digital business empire.
