Baru Sebulan Rilis, Robinhood Chain Tarik TVL $800 Juta - Memadukan Saham Wall Street dan Koin Meme

Just a Month After Launch, Robinhood Chain Attracts $800 Million TVL - Combining Wall Street Stocks and Meme Coins

Just about a month into operation since its launch on July 1, 2026, Robinhood’s Ethereum layer-2 has already recorded nearly $800 million in total value locked (TVL). During the same period, Robinhood Chain also processed over 200 million transactions. This early success was driven by an approach that Robinhood’s Head of Crypto, Johann Kerbrat, calls the “two wolves” strategy - an effort to balance structured financial products with the meme coin trend within a single ecosystem.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev took to the X platform to post this two-wolves metaphor to explain the direction of their platform. On one side, Robinhood is building infrastructure for traditional assets, while on the other, they are embracing the liquidity-generating joke coin trend.

Why Rely on Ethereum

Robinhood Chain chose to operate as a layer-2 network on top of Ethereum rather than building a standalone layer-1. Kerbrat explained that this decision was made for the sake of efficiency. By building on top of Ethereum, Robinhood can immediately rely on a proven security and decentralization system. Choosing this architecture allows the development team to focus their technical resources solely on building products.

This focus is evident in the range of initial utilities offered. The network facilitates around 200 tokenized stocks, bringing Wall Street assets on-chain. In addition, it supports stablecoin lending services and perpetual futures trading, completing the first wolf’s pillar that focuses on heavyweight financial instruments.

Meme Coins’ Function in Attracting Users

Then what about the second wolf? Instead of shunning meme coins, Kerbrat believes these types of tokens play a functional role in the ecosystem. According to him, meme coins bring liquidity and attract customer interest. The presence of these tokens serves as a way to attract the type of DeFi users who are typically highly sticky and hard to move from their original platforms.

While making room for veteran DeFi players, Robinhood Chain’s primary target remains different. They want to reach people who have never used crypto at all, rather than fighting for users from other blockchains. Kerbrat set a clear adoption benchmark: seeing their tens of millions of retail customers start trying to transact on this network is a major win for Robinhood.

A Competitor to Base that Doesn’t Need a New Coin

Robinhood Chain’s growth in its first 30 days has caught the attention of industry observers. Nansen founder Alex Svanevik called the network a potential serious competitor to Base, the layer-2 network from their rival exchange, Coinbase.

However, Svanevik floated one interesting theory. He doubts Robinhood will go down the route of launching its own native network token. The reason is entirely a matter of business math: releasing a crypto token risks creating direct competition with their own company’s stock, HOOD, in the eyes of public investors. For Robinhood shareholders, the absence of this token acts as a safeguard - ensuring the platform’s value and profits continue to flow into Wall Street shares, rather than being fragmented into the crypto market.
