Moscow Exchange dan Sberbank Kompak Buka Trading Kripto 1 Desember - Pembelian Ritel Dijatah 300.000 Rubel

Moscow Exchange and Sberbank to Launch Crypto Trading on Dec. 1 - Retail Purchases Capped at 300,000 Rubles

Russia’s two largest financial institutions have set the same date to enter the digital asset market. Moscow Exchange (Moex) and Sberbank are preparing to activate trading for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT starting Dec. 1, 2026. Moex Senior Director Boris Blokhin announced the schedule on Oct. 8, confirming that the country’s main exchange requires no additional permits or licenses to launch transactions.

Moex has appointed a digital depository partner where market participants will open trading accounts. At the same time, the Bank of Russia issued a crypto exchange license to Sberbank, following the digital depository registration the bank secured in early October. This dual status as both an exchange and a depository strengthens Sberbank’s position in the domestic capital market. However, the integration of conventional banking systems into crypto assets comes with strict regulatory restrictions.

Access Channels and Investor Quotas

Sberbank is preparing to launch its debut crypto products directly across three customer apps: SberBank Online, SberInvestments, and SberBusiness. The initial asset selection covers three instruments: Bitcoin, Ether, and USDT. Sberbank’s entry brings the Bank of Russia’s registry of licensed exchange operators to ten entities. VTB and T-Invest Lab were already on the exchange register, while VTB and Atomyze are registered in the depository category.

The operations of all these platforms rely on Russia’s regulated crypto trading framework, which took effect on Sept. 1, 2026. The framework covers trading, custody, and cross-border settlement under central bank oversight. Under the new rules, regulators divide investors into categories: non-qualified investors are capped at purchasing a maximum of 300,000 rubles worth of crypto per year per intermediary. Conversely, qualified investors face no nominal ceiling, provided they pass an official suitability test.

Sanctions Hurdles and Market Boundaries

Sberbank’s expansion still faces full blocking sanctions from the United States, imposed in April 2022 under Executive Order 14024. The sanctions legally prohibit any transactions involving US citizens or institutions. The liquidity unlocked by Sberbank and Moex moves within a closed loop, isolated from the Western banking ecosystem.

For global crypto market participants, Russia’s decision to integrate Bitcoin into its largest stock exchange and bank highlights the adoption of crypto for domestic transaction needs and cross-border settlements. For international investors, however, jurisdictional boundaries remain rigid: this new infrastructure is designed to serve local market interests under central bank oversight, rather than serve as an entry point for unregulated speculation.
